FOAL - Friends of the Anglophone Library

The Library was set up three years ago when the huge American library in Montpellier was closed.  A group of dedicated readers and friends of the old library decided to set up a new association and build a library. They started out with a few books that people had donated, then, thanks to subscription fees, generous benefactors and later a grant from the Town Hall they were able to increase the collection.

We are really lucky to have this Library and the various social activities linked to it—such as the Book Quiz, Play Reading evenings and the monthly Book Chats. New members are always welcome...all you need to do is to show up at the Library. AWG contact at FOAL  is Katharine J.

FOAL moved to its new premises on Saturday, 5th November.  The Grand Opening was very exciting, and we sipped champagne with visitors amongst whom  could be seen some reporters, and  the mayor's "adjoint".

Vicki was proud to show off the collection, to welcome members both old and new, to sell lots of books, and to present some of her "projects" for the Library  ( for example:- to extend the Childrens' section, with possibly a "story time", possible conversation exchanges, a christmas Raffle....;)  No amount of ideas and enthusiasm, now FOAL finally has a "home".

Many thanks to those AWG ladies who have steadfastly supported FOAL, and, in particular, those who donated books, and turned up on the "great day".

We hope to be able to welcome lots of AWG members at the Library very soon.
