Charity Research

AWG is in contact with several associations which accept donations of used clothing, toys, books, etc. Giving of oneself and one's time can be even more fulfilling than giving material gifts. AWG's charity committee has been investigating possibilities for club members to participate in local charity activities that would not necessarily require financial support.

LaCle (L'aide aux Cancers et Leucémies chez l'Enfant) was created in 1988 by parents directly concerned, and works to help children hospitalized in Montpellier with these diseases and their parents, for whom accommodations are available in LaCle's 13-room house across the road from the pediatric hospital Arnaud de Villeneuve. A telephone call to LaCle got the response, "OF COURSE we remember AWG. How could we forget?"read more

If you have a free half-day per month, enjoy arts plastiques, and are willing to participate in the free training session which is required, you can help the association.

Help Cancer Support France -Languedoc.  CSF Languedoc is an organization  committed to helping English-speaking people in the region who are experiencing cancer. The trained volunteers may  help by being available on the telephone, by visiting at home or in the hospital, by serving as a translator or interpreter where needed, by supplying information when requested. Two AWG members are presently volunteers with CSF. If anyone is interested in knowing. Contact Pam and Maquita. readmore

Restos Bébés de Montpellier. Resto Bébés accepts donations of clothing for babies and children up to the age of 3, toys and baby equipment (cribs, strollers, high chairs, etc). If you have any of these items that you would like to donate please contact Kim.   The baby booties project initiated to raise funds for Resto Bébés is a success, but it is an on-going project, and it is not too late to join. Even if you do not want to knit, you can participate in this project by purchasing baby booties as gifts, or by selling them to friends. You can also participate by donating yarn and adorable buttons, which the group needs in order to make such lovely booties. Please contact Mariannick or Maribeth for additional information on the location of each meeting.

Flamingo Friend's service. As many of you know, AWG has set up a "service bank" whereby a member in need of a service can reach out for the help of a "Flamingo Friend".  This service was designed as both a fundraiser and a means of developing links among our members. The Flamingo Friend may be solicited by a member to drive to the airport or the train station, the hospital for a pick up or a drop off, to translate, to haul, to do childcare, pet care, plant care....The person requesting the help will make an appropriate donation to the AWG fundraising kitty to "thank" the volunteer. to read more about Flamingo Friend's service.

Of course, if you have any other suggestions, or would like to help in any way, please contact us.
